LEARN. BUILD. FLY.

Hi, I’m Andy.

I’m an architect living in a small town along Colorado’s front range. I’ve probably loved airplanes since I saw my first one, and I earned my private pilot certificate in 2019.

The story

Recently a friend and I were working on completing a Viking Dragonfly (scratch-built composite airplane designed around 1980) he had acquired long ago as a partially-complete airframe. It was one of the most fun projects I’ve ever worked on, but along the way, we decided it just wasn’t the right airplane for our needs.

We considered other types of planes we might build together, but we didn’t find anything that was just what we needed. My friend, who knew I was interested in designing an airplane, asked, “do you think you could design something better?” Challenge accepted!

The blog

With this site, I’ll be documenting the design process for an all-original experimental amateur-built airplane. If you follow along, I hope to demystify the design process and give you a better idea of the things that shape the design of light aircraft.
